A Mistaken Kiss from Black Heart

I'm posting this for the "No Kiss" Blogfest.

Tiana, my main female character, collapsed in a previous scene, and is having a nightmare. I've included part of her dream.

Just as her legs buckled, Arathor’s strong arms picked her up and carried her away. She wrapped her hands around his neck and buried her face in his chest. He kissed the top of her head. His deep voice murmured words of reassurance. She looked up to see him staring at her with his dark eyes.

He was such a handsome man. She ran her fingers over the beard on his strong jaw, then lifted her face to his and kissed him. At first he hesitated, but then their mouths moved together, playing and teasing. The hair of his beard tickled her chin. His lips were warm and alive, and soft. Very soft.

She sighed into his mouth. She could stay in his arms for the rest of her life and be a happy woman.

When he stopped, she let out a cry of disappointment.

“I’m glad you’re awake.”

Her eyelids flew open. This wasn’t a dream. Arathor was really here.

And she’d kissed him.

Of all the stupid things…. She covered her face with her hands, shaking her head over her brazen behavior.

And then she realized that he could have stopped her. “You let me kiss you,” she said.

“Who was I to turn down a kiss from a beautiful woman?"

She wasn’t sure if her cheeks burned from embarrassment or pleasure. “I thought it was a dream.”

“So you kissed me in a dream?” One dark eyebrow quirked up, along with one corner of his mouth. Why would he start teasing her now, after all these years? "Dorinda said our dreams sometimes reveal what we want most.”

She always kissed him in her dreams. What did that say about her? When his mouth broadened into a full smile, she wanted to hit him. He was treating this as if it were nothing.
